Warriors star Stephen Curry says he’s “fine” after rolling his right ankle during practice

Stephen Curry tweaked his right ankle during the Golden State Warriors’ open practice in San Francisco on Sunday night and limped to the locker room.

Coach Steve Kerr told reporters afterward that Curry avoided a major issue.

How the Injury Happened

Curry was lined up against reserve guard De’Anthony Melton on the wing when he slipped and misstepped. He showed frustration by banging the basketball on the floor. Action stopped, and Curry’s teammates expressed immediate concern at his discomfort. Several staffers, including Kerr, went down the tunnel to check on Curry.

Curry’s Recent Injury History

Curry missed 43 games last season, including 27 for persistent pain and swelling in his right knee. The Warriors have purposefully ramped up his court work more slowly this season, lightening his practice time and minutes in the preseason. He turns 39 in March.

Outlook

There is no immediate word on Curry’s status, but a team source reiterated that the ankle tweak is “not serious.”

The Warriors open the season Wednesday night in Los Angeles against the Lakers.
